KCat's Super Duper Traffic Tutorial

Part One - Toplist Basics

You send me traffic.  I send you traffic.  The more you send, the more you get.

Ready to grab a beer?  ;)

OK, toplists are a little more complicated, but that's the general concept.  When you sign up for Nasty Kitten, you'll get a specific tracking code.  Every time someone clicks a link from your site to Nasty Kitten or vice versa, the script will keep track.  You can log in & see what kind of numbers we're talking about under Edit Account > Display Stats for each list.

The more traffic you send, the higher your banner moves on the list.  Second & third (or more) pages of toplists get a lot less traffic than the first page.  So staying on the first page is key.  Small or new toplists are great because it often doesn't take more than a handful of hits a day to stay on page 1.  As the site's traffic grows, so will your return.

The other number you want to watch here is what kind of return you're getting.  If you send 100 hits to a toplist & only get 5 back, that's a poor use of your traffic.  Possible problems:

 > 100 hits is only getting you onto page 2 (or worse!)

 > your banner pic just isn't pulling (is it clear?  sharp?  Just because a photo at 800 X 600 looks good, it doesn't mean that it would make a good banner.  I prefer strong, small images that stand out due to unusual composition, strong contrast and/or bright colors)

 > your banner pic just doesn't work for that niche (pic of a teen on a mature site just won't pull, regardless of how hot she is)

That being said, a good traffic strategy doesn't have to mean that you're getting more traffic out than you send in.  Here's why:

I've got a brand new paysite - BlondeLesboBitches.com.  It has zero traffic.

I build my first doorway - BlondeLesboBitches.com/doorway1.htm that has a basic text link box to 4 lesbo toplists.

Next, I build a second doorway - BlondeLesboBitches.com/doorway2.htm that has another basic text link box, but these 4 links go to blonde toplists.

To further boost the traffic, I like to add 1 or 2 pop ups.  I never use more than two & don't list sites that use more than two.  I don't have any solid numbers on this, but from my experience building sites & setting up traffic trades, it seems like more than 2 pops stops being productive & crosses over into really fucking annoying.  If webmasters hadn't gone insane with pop up hells trying to cheat toplists, we probably wouldn't see so much pop up blocker software these days.  But that's a rant for another day...

So, add a pop up or two.  A simple "blur" console will open behind your main page so if the surfer hits the X to close your site, he'll then see the toplist.  Nothing taken away from your tour & chance to boost your toplist inbound traffic so you can get some new surfers back out.  Another option is exit consoles, that begin to load when the surfer exits your site via any link that doesn't have the unload code, but also by hitting the back key, a bookmark or his home button.  The problem here is that depending on his net connection & computer speed, the exit console may not load fast enough to register the hit.  Or he may close it before the toplist script tracks your hit, so you get 0 credit.

My favorite code is a random link popper that allows you to add as many links as you'd like & will pop a different one every time the page loads.  You get even dispersion to your toplists, or if you want to send a little more to one toplist that send particularly juicy traffic, you can insert it more than once.

Copy & paste this javascript into the <HEAD> section of your page:

If you want to add more sites into the rotation, just change the variable "how_many_ads" to the correct number.

So, now you've got 2 doorway pages that each have 4 outbound links plus a random pop up.  Whether you pop the blonde links on the lesbo page or the blonde page is up to you.  Sometimes it's nice to stay niched, sometimes mixing it up works better.  Try them both & see what works for you.

Back to the ratios...

You've built two pages, signed up for 8 sites.  Shouldn't have taken more than half an hour or so.  Are you done?  You could be.

The beauty of signing up for different toplists, is that each webmaster is probably hosting in a different time zone, so when each toplist resets (usually at midnight), they won't all reset at the same time.  With the Nasty Kitten lists, I make sure each individual list reranks at a different time.  This way you have a new chance to get on page 1 every 24 hours.  Toplist A starts sending you a few hits to Doorway 1 which pops Toplist B moving your banner higher up the page.

When you find the right lists & the right amount of traffic to distribute to each, they should feed each other.  That's the beauty of toplists.  Build it & forget it.

This is why the ratios don't have to be important.  If the only traffic you're sending to those pages comes from the never-ending toplist cycle, you can just let them feed each other & if one list doesn't send as much as another, it's still fresh faces kicking in at a different time of day.  Some toplists reset every 2 days!

So only 30 minutes one time will get me massive traffic?  What the fuck have I been doing with my life???

Almost.

You will probably still need to feed the lists.  If you're starting with 2 fresh pages that have no other traffic, aside from hiring your mom, brother & cousin down the street to click on your link code a bunch of times every day (which will probably be filtered out by IP & considered cheating anyways), you still need to send a hit or two to each list to land your banner on the page.

On small lists & brand new ones, they'll often display your banner without any hits just to get the lists moving.  But established sites will require at least 1 hit, some as many as 5, before your banner will appear.  If all of your toplists reset at the exact same time, your banner wouldn't be displayed anywhere.  You would get no traffic to your doorways, so you couldn't send any traffic back to the toplists.  Your banner would drop off & stay off.

This is why sending a boost of traffic to your doorways helps the cycle run a little smoother.  Next time you submit a TGP gallery or a free site, instead of using your CLICK HERE NOW link or banner to deliver surfers to your home page, send 'em to a doorway instead.  They'll get a pop or click on one of your links & you'll move up the list, which will ultimately deliver even more traffic to your site.

Got that?
